We made it through another year!!

Peter and Ms. Diaz

Most of you probably know that this year has been a difficult one for my youngest son, Peter. He has struggled with anxiety and depression, and has recently been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. We have been fortunate to have found an awesome psychiatrist and behavior therapist who have helped us get this under control. Peter and the rest of the family are learning to live life with this shadowing us, but things are good.

School has been a nightmare for Peter. The angst of being 12 and in 6th grade is enough of a chore for any young person. Add to it the complexities of bi-polar disorder, and things could not get much crazier. There were days when Peter would just wrap himself up in a blanket and hide in a cocoon, days when he would be so hyper that his feet didn't seem to touch the ground, and days when his sadness was totally overwhelming...any all of the emotions in between these. Our principal, Mrs. Diaz, was able to understand Peter's struggles on a personal level, as bi-polar disorder touches her family, too. She was a source of comfort and support for Peter.

On May 23rd, Peter marched across the stage to get his certificate of completion announcing the end of his career at Turner Elementary. Next year, he will be moving on to West Shore Jr./Sr. High School, where Ben and David have attended. He is apprehensive of what will come next, but knows that he will be able to meet it head on with the help of his support team.

WAY TO GO PETER!!!!!!!!!

Relaxing through my Crafting

During the last few days I was able to get some time to work on my scrapbooking and also my cardmaking. Kelcey and I are going to have our Crafter's Anonymous monthly get together next week. I needed to get busy on my classes...I am doing a paper bag album ( sample not ready to post ladies!) class and also a Father's Day card (or card for sending to a male). Here is one of the Father's Day cards I came up with. The turtle is embossed and really jumps off the card!

The end of another school year...

Well, it's hard to believe but another school year is coming to an end. We only have one more full day of school, and then three short days. I look back at my students and cannot believe how much they have grown and developed since August! WOW....

It has been a tough year for Peter. The last few days of school are proving to be very challenging because there is less structure and more freedom. Although it is fun for most 6th graders, having game days and "fun" activities is rough for Peter...he thrives on structure and buckles under change!!!!!!!!!! Today, he moaned and groaned so much, I let him stay home. He slept for most of the day. Tomorrow he goes to school because I have an at home day for ME. I was supposed to be in Orlando teaching at a weekend crop, but a good friend passed away and we have a funeral to attend on Saturday.

We can't wait until Wednesday afternoon, when the school year officially comes to a close. Peter will be moving on to West Shore, where he finally happy to go. Ben will be thrilled to finally be done with his finals, and David has already been home for 2 weeks, moaning about having to go to work! sure is tough for the wolfecubs (NOT!!!!).

Time goes by....

Here is a photo of the "old timers". My mom (Barbara), Dad (Howie), Gary, me, Heather, and Mark. Loki had to sneak into the photo, too! The last time I was together with Mark and my parents was just before my wedding in 1985. Heather did not come on that trip, so it has been even longer since I saw her. Hopefully it won't be another 20 years until we get together again.

Happy Mother's Day

Peter, Mark and Heather

We are lucky to have my parents living about an hour away from us. Unfortunately, with our busy schedules, we don't see them as often a s we would like. Sunday we had the treat not only of visiting with my parents, but also visiting with friends I have not seen in about 20 years! Mark and Heather were our neighbors when I was about 7 years old...they moved back to Israel in the late 1970's. They came to the states to celebrate 40 years of marriage and made a special trip to Palm Bay to visit with my family.

We had a lovely afternoon, relaxing out by the pool with the boys. It was interesting for the boys to hear of their life on the kibbutz. Maybe if things settle down in Israel, Gary and I will take our family to visit them one day. True friends are like a favorite pair of slippers...even though they are not always around, they remain warm and cozy whenever you find them!

Cruise Memories...

Iam back from our short but memorable cruise to the Bahamas with the Hilltop Memories scrapbookers. Twenty two scrapbooking gals showed the world ( or at least a small part of it) that scrapbookers are not dowdy! Whoever wrote that article for the Washington Post should have shadowed us for a few days. Let's see...what happens with the girls, stays with the girls...but I can tell you a few highlights...with photos! We have a new layout challenge entitled
"And They Thought We Were Scrapbooking!!??", it will probably be a long time before Jayne goes through the drive-through at McDonald's, but she may be buying a new purse soon, Maxine had a close encounter of an amazing kind...and Linda learned to appreciate dancing around the pool deck. Next time, the rubbersuit girls are going on board as entertainment...and not just cruisers!

Peter has been having fun with his skateboard. He and his friends practice their tricks almost every day. They are getting pretty good!
