I'm on a Blog Trip!

The Mommy Community is going on a blog trip! Members are coming around on a virtual field trip of sorts, visiting new people online. Day 1 is starting in a few minutes (Sept. 1) and I figured since I am already awake and online, it is a good time to get started. I am always early for things, anyway, so why should this be different?
Here's a little about me for those who come visit:
I am 43, have been married to my high school sweetie for 23 years, moved to Florida from Massachusetts when we got married. We have 3 boys: Dave is 21 and is going to school to be an aerospace engineer. He is currently on a work study program with NASA. Ben is 16 and is a truly retro kid. He loves to listen to classic rock, cult movies, and almost anything he can get his hands on from yesteryear...Pete is 13 and loves to skateboard. He spends as much time on his board and skating as he can. He also is learning to play the guitar. In addition to the boys, we also have 3 fur-babies. Three big dogs ( Loki, Thor and Baloo). We live on the East Coast of Central Florida, not too far from Cape Canaveral/ Kennedy Space Center. One of the best things about living here is that we can watch the space shuttle launches from our yard or the schoolyard. I am a teacher of 3-4 year olds with special needs, and have taught special education in the public schools for 23 years.
When not working, hanging out with my family, or doing the mom thing, I love to do papercrafts. I have been scrapbooking for about 8 years, and also doing rubberstamping for about 5. I am a new Stampin Up demo, as my friend is stepping away and asked me to help her out.
HUGS to all, and read my blog, and look at the photos to learn more about me!

Fay Fay, Go AWAY!!!!

The heavy rains have stopped, but we are still having intermittent showers. It was clear enough yesterday to clean up the debris in the yard.

Gary and Pete removed the night blooming jasmine that collapsed and fell into the pool. Ben said it was depressed and drowned in it's sorrow! The planter that it was in was super-soaked, and it just floated right out. The poor plant was dangling by it's roots.

Today, we went to WalMart ( WOW!!!) for our first trip through town. The groceries were getting low, and the boys wanted to get the rest of the school supplies their teachers requested last Monday. Some roads were still flooded, and there were big puddles and debris all over. Everyone says "what's so bad about a tropical storm? It's not as bad as a hurricane!"...well, people be warned---tropical storms can do almost as much damage. I just heard on the news that there are still 3500 people in our town without power.

Let's Go on a BLOG TRIP!!!!

I have been invited to go on a virtual road trip to meet more blogging friends. This is part of The Mommy Community....it seems like fun, so please join me! Click on the banner below to find out more!

Rain, Rain, Go Away....

If you haven't seen the news, Tropical Storm Fay is a real B*TCH! She traveled to Brevard County and decided to over-stay her welcome. Since her arrival on Monday afternoon, she has dumped at least 18 inches of rain in our neighborhood. Thank goodness we did not lose power ( we did have some quick outages) or have any major damage. The high winds blew some trees over, we lost our phone and internet service due to one of the trees hitting a cable line, and the kids are going stir crazy! It has rained hard and steady since Monday evening, and just now is tapering off. We were able to get in the first day of school, but they have been shut down for the past 3 days. Hopefully they will open tomorrow.
We didn't get outside to take any photos...nothing major, just lots of standing water! Hope we have our phone and internet for good now. Thanks for all the hugs, kind thoughts and prayers you have sent our way for the past few days. They are appreciated!

Gary and Roz take a trip (ALONE!!!!)

Gary and I had the most awesome weekend away! We attended our first ever Grape Stomp. It was held at Henscratch Farms in Lake Placid Florida ( go to Fort Pierce, turn West and head to the middle of the state!). Henscratch is a little local winery that Kelcey and I found out about 2 weeks ago. They have a festival once a year where they set out a big metal stomping bin and let the masses help them stomp grapes for a special edition of their wine ( ironically called Foot Stomp Wine). At the festival, you can order bottles of this special wine, with a customized label of you in the bucket stomping the grapes! There is music, food, grape picking and of course wine at the festival. We met lots of fun people, and had a great time. December or January is their strawberry festival, where you can pick hydroponically grown berries! We will attend that weekend with the boys.

Gary and I stayed at the Kenilworth Lodge in Sebring. This hotel is old, and looks like the hotel featured in The Shining, by Stephen King. Yes, it really is haunted. We had a few goofy things happen this weekend, and Gary is convinced they were poltergeist related! Too funny...especially if you know my Gary. It was great to get away by ourselves, as the boys stayed home together.

Thanks Sammi!

Sammi, one of my SBS-15 sisters gave me an award! It's called the WYLDE WOMEN award and the purpose of it is "to send love and acknowledgment to women who brighten your day, teach you new things and live their lives fully with generosity and joy". Isn't that lovely?

The rules are:

You can give it to one or one hundred or any number in between - it's up to you.
Make sure you link to their site in your post.
Link back to Tammy's blog so that she can go to visit all these wonderful women, and
Remember the Purpose of the Award.
There are so many people I'd like to send this to.... so here goes:

Jules--leader of the Rubbersuit Girls and head Smoochie Girl. She is a wonderfully talented crafter, caring friend, and inspiration to many. MWAH!

Kip--talented in her own right, inspires us with her beautiful mini-books and projects, Smoochie Girl extra-ordinairre (who will correct my spelling)...and makes all of us smile a little more when we are around her.

Deb---an amazingly talented crafter whose work is showcased on Kit-N-Kaboodles and other scrappy places, she is a fantastic mom and kaboodle friend who gives us inspiration with layouts and cards.

Jayne--Mama Jayne and fellow rubbersuit girl, she livens up a cruise or crop with her hilarious stories of life with her Older Sister Susie (who also joins us on crafty adventures)....she inspires us with beautiful layouts and projects that touch our hearts!

there are more...but time is short so I will end for now!
HUGS!!!!

Edwin cards

Tonight I put together some cards using one of the Edwin stamps that I recently received. Although he is supposed to be wearing a sweater, he looks pretty sharp on this BG Two Scoops paper! I colored him with watercolor crayons, and used some old stampin up cardstock that I put through the cuttlebug with the nestabilities dies.

Stylin' Mom

Monday's visit to Dr. C determined that the scar tissue in my ankle is not cooperating with the treatment and is not dissolving. So, it will have to be removed surgically. We are going to wait until things are settled in at school, and probably do this over Thanksgiving, so that I don't have to take time off work. In the meantime, he prescribed a brace for me to wear to see if it will be more comfortable, and also protect it from little children. Unfortunately, I cannot fit my foot into any of my sneakers with the darn thing. Gary suggested that I get a size larger shoe, and that I get a man's shoe as it is wider. Grrrrr.....I finally found one that would fit the bill and wasn't UGLY as sin! The only thing is that Pete is jealous, and thinks that I am the coolest mom on the planet now! I had to settle for skate shoes, and now I rock the planet....at least from the kids point of view!

Dinner with family

Julia, Stan and Chelsea came down for a quick visit. We spent a few hours with them Tuesday, at Mom and Dad's house. We all went out to dinner at a local Italian place. Pete was the photographer, and this is the only photo he took all day! Oh well..maybe next time!

FRIED GREEN TOMATO CROP

OK, the first sign that you are in an old haunted hotel is when you see a sign like this in the elevator---and it takes about 5 minutes to go up one flight in the elevator!

We stayed at the Kenilworth Lodge in Sebring, which is a beautiful historic hotel. Upon arrival, you are accutely aware that the hotel resembles the one featured in THE SHINING! There is a ghost who resides on the 3rd floor of this hotel...We had a blast though! More details to follow....
